Carve, Create, Celebrate: Our Halloween Pumpkin Carving

On Sunday 25 October, Christ Church in Ward End was filled with pumpkins, carving tools and plenty of Halloween excitement as BYO hosted its pumpkin carving activity.

Our young people chose their pumpkins, sketched out their designs and then got stuck in, scooping, carving and helping one another bring their ideas to life. By the end of the afternoon the tables were lined with grinning jack-o'-lanterns, cat ears and all, and every young person had something they had made with their own hands to take home. Prizes were up for grabs for the best designs, with the winners announced on each young person's BYO Passport.

As always, we asked our young people to tell us how it went on a short feedback sheet. Each figure below is a share of the young people who answered that question.

  • 79% ticked "Loved it!" when asked how much they enjoyed the activity.

  • 92% said yes, they would like to come to another BYO activity.

  • 69% rated their carving skills as "Good" by the end of the session.

Young people also told us that they tried something new, worked with others, learned to use tools safely, made a new friend, felt proud of their pumpkin and felt welcome at BYO.

In their own words: "I loved today.", "Carving was the best part of today" and "teamwork makes the dreamwork." One young person summed it up simply: "I want to come again to carve."

A couple of young people asked us to make it "bigger" next time, and we'll take that on board.

A huge thank you to our volunteers and to all the families who came along. There's plenty more coming up, from Guy Fawkes Night to our Christmas Party, so take a look at What's on to see what's next. For more information, call us on 0121 448 7378 or 07346 216302, or email info@britanniayo.com.
