Expanding Worlds Through Words

Literacy sits at the core of what BYO does. Research tells us that children from disadvantaged backgrounds can be up to two years behind their peers in reading ability by age 11 – and sessions like this are part of how we close that gap.

This week's reading brought with it a brilliant collection of new words. Tomes, quaint, and curator were among the standout discoveries – the last of which, fittingly, stumped a few members of staff too. These aren't just vocabulary exercises; they're doors opening onto new ways of thinking, communicating, and understanding the world.

Every word learned builds confidence. Every session builds a reader. And every reader, given the right environment, builds a future.
